Hi book lovelies!
I don’t know about you, but I’m not feeling 22. After I had my second kid, my body felt… creaky. I could basically hear my joints squeaking when I stood up. And although I wasn’t 22 anymore, I was definitely too young to be falling apart like that. So I went down a rabbit hole on all things longevity — books, podcasts, deep dives — and one thing kept coming up: walking.
So off I went, walking here and there and absolutely nowhere. At first I walked in silence (like a complete psycopath). But then I realized: I could be getting in extra reading time with audiobooks. I started upping my step count and my page count at the same time, and honestly? Game-changer.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always loved audiobooks, but I’ve found a new appreciation for them since beginning my hot-girl walks.
Whether you’re walking loops around the neighborhood like me, sitting in vacation traffic, or tune out “MOM! MOM! MOM!” from the kiddie pool, these audiobooks will lock you in:
Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
– This audiobook is a full production — witty, sharp, and deeply satisfying to listen to. The narration brings Elizabeth Zott’s deadpan brilliance to life, and I laughed and teared up, which feels like the ultimate endorsement.
The Third Gilmore Girl by Kelly Bishop
- If you loved Gilmore Girls even a little, this is a must-listen. Kelly Bishop’s voice is warm, grounded, and just sharp enough — like a cozy catch-up with an old friend who also happens to be a Broadway legend.
They Can’t Kill Us Until They Kill Us by Eve L. Ewing & Hanif Abdurraqib
– These essays hit even harder in audio — poetic, grounded, and full of cultural truth-telling. Race and music are woven throughout the essays in an incredibly impactful way. I kept rewinding sections just to hear them again.
Have a favorite audiobook that made your walks (or errands, or laundry sessions) 100x better? Let me know in the comments — I’m always looking for my next listen.
Your smitten bookworm,
Emily
